Caño Cristales

La Macarena is a municipality located in the department of Meta, Colombia, 225 km from Villavicencio, capital of the department. It is part of the Sierra de la Macarena and integrates the Macarena Special Management Area, AMEM5 which integrates several natural reserves. The municipality is characterized by being very close to Caño Cristales, considered the most beautiful river in the world. After the signing of the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC-Ep guerrilla, the municipality has become a tourist attraction pole during the opening season of Caño Cristales (June-December)

Bring your reusable water bottle or camel back. Disposable plastics are not allowed in Caño Cristales.
Wear clothing that protects you from the sun. The use of sunscreen, repellent, creams, etc., which alter the ecosystem and affect the plants, is not permitted.
Wear good walking shoes, preferably ones that cover your ankles. You cannot do the trails with sandals or flip flops.

Hotels in La Macarena do not have hot water. The shower water is room temperature.
In Macarena, there is only a Bancolombia banking correspondent and a Banco Agrario headquarters. Still, we recommend you bring cash.
The telephone signal is scarce, the only operator that works (intermittently) is Claro.
Children under 5 years old are not allowed to enter, the ideal age for a child to take the tour is 10 years old. .
